Yearly Events....
Our school has a number
of events which occur on an annual basis. As well, there are a
number of community events. Please check below for a list of
annual events at our school and in our community.
School Events:
Orientation Day: In order for
new teachers to get to know the community and surrounding areas,
there is an Orientation Day. This could involve a day fishing on the
lake or a trip on the land.
Culture trips: Berry picking trips are planned for each
class on the land. Tents are set up, cooks are hired, a guide with a
gun is hired, traditional meals are cooked on the land e.g. fish,
caribou and bannock. Students are involved in picking berries
usually black berries and small blue berries. When they come back to
class, this experience is correlated with other subject areas.
Literacy week activities during month of October:
(i) Read for fifteen minutes.
(ii) Parents coming to school and reading with students.
(iii) Students from the High School coming to the Rachel
Arngnammaktiq Elementary and doing buddy reading.
(iv) Writing contests.
Halloween Parade: Scheduled each year on Oct 31st.

Numeracy Month activities during November:
(i) math fair
(ii) math related activities and sleep over.
Christmas concert: (Scheduled yearly just prior to the
Christmas break) For 2007, Christmas Concert is scheduled for
December 17th.
Science Fair: Annual event, usually scheduled in April.
Spring Fishing Trips: Each class gets to spend a day at
thepoint on the lake and participate in traditional fishing
experiences.
Awards assembly: Our awards assembly is held each year
near the end of the school year. Awards are awarded for top students
in various subject areas, highest percentages in attendance and
perfect attendance. Business usually donate bicycles for
awards and it is open to the public.
Community Events:
Hamlet Holiday scheduled each year on May 7th.
Elders' feasts are held at various times throughout the year.
Square dances are held at the Community Hall on a regular
basis.
Minor Hockey Week is held each year usually in February.
Community Basketball Tournament is held each year just after
Easter.
Skidoo races, a very popular sport, are held every year on
the Lake around the end of May or early June.
