The community of Baker Lake, Nunavut has a population of 1700. It is the geographical center of Canada with a Latitude of 64 degrees 20 minutes North, and a Longitude 96 degrees 10 minutes West

Baker Lake has four churches:  Anglican, Roman Catholic, Christian Artic Fellowship and Ba'hai

The town has a Hockey arena and a ball field, with the most popular sport being ice hockey.

Baker Lake has two hotels; the Nunaniut and the Igloo.


There is a health centre and two school, Rachel Arngnammaktiq Elementary School and Jona Amitiaaq High School.

Kivalliq School Board Operations Main Office is located in Baker Lake.

The main industries of Baker Lake are mining, tourism, hunting and trapping, guiding and the service industry.

Baker Lake gained National recognition for stopping the production of  a Uranium deposit find in the Thelon River area.

The famous Thelon River has been canoed by many dignitaries such as Pierre Trudeau.  At the head waters of  the Thelon River is the Wilderness Sanctuary which is a Heritage Site. The Wilderness Sanctuary is an area with splendid scenic views.
